Doctor Who Personal Canon
The Doctor

1. Yes, Susan is the Doctor's biological granddaughter. See, there was this period of time (over, say, a few years) where the Doctor had his first major falling out (for moral reasons) with Koschei. He found a girl who fancied him, married her for no particularly good reason, and had a kid with her - Susan's Mum. And while he liked his wife, he didn't exactly find settling down very easy, and it broke up amiacably. She knew that he was still in love with someone else, anyway.

1a. And when he broke up with Koschei - again - for good, he took his young granddaughter and ran. And anyway, he didn't want her to end up like him, either.

2. Yes, the Doctor fancied Jamie. But it was Jamie who made the first move - the war had taught him that you could die tomorrow and so should make the best of things. Jamie and Zoe having their memories erased and sent home was the biggest heartsbreak the Doctor had ever experienced thus far - even more than leaving Gallifrey and kicking Susan out.

2a. When he later worked for the Time Lords for a short time (during which the events of Three Doctors and Five Doctors happened), he refused to go any longer without Jamie. The Doctor worked a lot happier this time.

2b. This time, when they were seperated, the Doctor hypnotised Jamie so that he could keep his memories. Oh, it was selfish, but he couldn't handle Jamie forgetting him - again.

3. The Doctor's exile damaged him more than he showed - his forced regeneration and lack of choosing his own body was violation, his crippled TARDIS a desecration. He kept himself busy to stop himself thinking about it - the work was reasonably interesting, and the Brigadier was always good company (during and after hours).

3a. The Master helped a lot. He hadn't realised how much he had missed him, and he tried very hard to reveal how pleased he was to see him. After all, continued infatuation with his megalomaniac ex wasn't exactly smiled upon by UNIT.

3b. The TARDIS being freed was another lock that fell away, but he didn't feel truly free until his regeneration. His third body, as much as it was his body, was never truly his.

4. The Doctor was actually happy during this incarnation. He was extremely fond of Sarah Jane (and Harry, even though he wouldn't admit it, much like he'd treat a young man like Mickey in half a dozen regenerations) and Leela and Romana and Adric. But it was a long life - centuries - and by the time Romana left, he was so tired. His feeling old was a major factor in regenerating into a younger body.

5. Looking younger didn't exactly help, though - at one point, every single one of his companions had fancied him at some point. But Adric and Nyssa were so young, and Tegan was so abrasive, that the first one he slept with was Turlough. It also helped that Turlough didn't know his last incarnation...

5a. Turlough knew some very interesting things to do with his school tie. And even though the Doctor would never admit it, even to himself, he had a thing for uniforms.

6. This incarnation bore the brunt of all the trauma that had accumulated during his last. Remembering Adric's death as he regenerated was the last straw - all his self-loathing was torn away and replaced by self-assuredness. Unfortunately, he went a little overboard.

7. The Doctor wasn't joking when he said unlimited rice pudding was something to be feared. He hated the stuff (along with meat and pears).

7a. Ace reminded him so much of his daughter that it hurt. He vowed not to make the same mistakes with her, but sometimes he thought he made it worse.

8. The Doctor woke up in a morgue, where he proceeded to stumble out, find that nice cardiologist, and collapse in her arms. She brought him home, where he proceeded to have some very vivid hallucinations. When he woke up, he gave her a kiss goodbye and went back to his TARDIS.

8a. And then the console exploded in his face and knocked his memories sideways. Jumping sideways, backwards and forwards in time, he found his other incarnations and proceeded to have UST with himself. Then he went back to London and met a girl called Sam.

8b. He latched on to Fitz fairly quickly. And then he couldn't remember a time where he didn't know Fitz's name, and his companion became his whole world. He was more physical with him - and loved him more - than any other companion he ever had.

8c. Fitz never left him. He refused. When he died in the Time War, the Doctor wore his jacket as penance.

9. The end of the Time War was a suicide bid. He was unpleasantly surprised to wake up with a new body afterwards, but he pulled Fitz's jacket on and started jumping through time, finding something, anything, he could do to help.

9a. It wasn't until he hit twenty-first century Earth and an Auton invasion that he found someone that was companion material. And he only psychologically manipulated her a little into convincing her to come with him.

9b. He did love Rose in this incarnation. Jack, too. But it was always fun, it was never a one true love kind of thing. There was only one person who he loved like that, and he had a goatee. (Or, at least, he used to.)

9c. Everything changed when he regenerated. He didn't feel the same way about her. She did.

10. It was easier to be physical with Rose in this incarnation. But the feelings just weren't there. If he was being honest with himself, he was terrified when Rose said she wanted to be with him forever - because inevitably, he knew she'd end up hurt. And he never wanted to hurt her.

10a. He was going to tell Rose that he loved her, just to give her closure. He's still not sure whether it was good or bad that he never got to.

10b. Martha was the one to give him closure - the first one he had said the word 'Gallifrey' to since the planet died. He was so proud of her - especially for leaving when she felt it right to. He hoped he gave her confidence.

10c. He forgave the Master a long time ago. He forgave him while he was still in his first incarnation.

The Companions

1. Ian proposed to Barbara the day after they returned to Earth. They married four months later. Their second child - a daughter - was named Susan.

1a. Susan had children, too, a boy and a girl. Their middle names were Barbara and Ian.

2. Jamie was badly wounded in one incident. Strangely, everything was a bit blurry before it, but he chalked that up to the concussion. And then he met a strange little man - again - and everything came flooding back.

3. Jo knew she married Cliff for the wrong reasons, but she didn't really care. They stayed together for nearly ten years, and she only left when she was pregnant. Cliff was spending time studying man-eating bugs in the Amazon, and that was no environment to raise little Ianto in.

3a. Jo was extremely pleased when Ianto didn't take after either of them, did well in his exams, went to do some work in London, then came back to Cardiff to work for the tourist board. At least he was safe.

4. Sarah Jane went home and sulked for a week after the Doctor dumped her in Aberdeen. Then she told herself she was being silly and got on with her life, although there was one part that desperately wanted closure.

4a. She got her closure thirty years later, and got on with her life.

5. Turlough never managed to fit in after his home - especially since he was displaced in time. The last time he had seen his little brother, he was a baby. And that was only four years ago, for him. He still thinks about the Doctor a lot.

6. Peri wasn't exactly keen on marrying an alien, but it was a good life without the risk of constant death. Still, she never stopped looking out for young men with blonde hair, or blonde curls and bright colours, or even gorgeous Egyptian girls.

7. The Time Lords were so grateful to the Doctor for destroying Skaro that they let his human companion became a Time Lord. And at any rate, if they had said no, President Romana would have set them straight.

7a. Ace wasn't quite sure what species she was. She changed when she got the Rassilon Imperituer, and changed even more when her first regeneration was into a Gallifreyan body.

7b. She saw the Doctor, just twice, during the Time War. But the first time, she was in her second body and didn't recognise her, and anyway, he was busy snogging the scruffy berk in the leather jacket.

7c. The second time was after Fitz died. She locked eyes with the Doctor and she thought she saw recognition, but she was leading the attack on one of the Dalek ships and had to leave. And if she hadn't died in the attack, she would have said hi afterwards.

8. Fitz has experienced a major crisis of identity. But to be fair, he does have an excuse. Sometimes he thinks that the Doctor changed his brain, and he wonders if he would have left the Doctor on his own if he hadn't had to be remembered.

8a. It would be a lie to say he had no regrets. But then he wondered where he would be if he wasn't on the deck of a doomed ship, and he realises that he wouldn't want to be anywhere the Doctor isn't.

9. Adam doesn't leave the house any more - he's too scared that someone will click their fingers. It takes him four years to be able to walk out the door - and that's only if he's wearing a hat.

10. Rose knows perfectly well that everything changed when the Doctor regenerated. She knows it in hindsight. She knows that whatever they had in his last incarnation was gone, she just didn't want to admit it. But she says goodbye at Darlig Ulv Stranden, and gets on with her life.

10a. She had had hopes to get back with Mickey when she first arrived in Pete's world. She didn't count on him having a boyfriend. Still, she adjusts. She has a baby sister, and both her parents, and a good house, and an amazing job, and a gorgeous girlfriend who works as a doctor (the irony has never failed to amuse her). In a few years, Rose might offer Martha a job at Torchwood. She's pretty lucky, her life is good, and soon memories of the Doctor make her smile, not cry.

The Spin-Offs

1. Ianto has never told his parents what they do. And anyway, he barely sees his father - too much time in the Amazon, and his mother would worry. She isn't used to all that alien stuff.

1a. Except after Abaddon, he goes back to Mum's place and tells her everything. He reckons it's only fair that if he dies, like Jack did, then she should know why. He tells her about Torchwood. She tells him about UNIT.

2. Owen failed his exams in his first year. It wasn't from lack of brains, it was just from lack of study. He has never actually gotten over it.

3. Gwen only realised how much she loved Rhys when she was getting fucked by Owen. She pulled away when he was finished and went down to him. The next day, Diana arrived. She only told him because she felt guilty. Then she felt more guilty for drugging him...

3a. After Abaddon, after Jack woke up and disappeared, she went home and took the next few days off.

4. Toshiko suspects she should have realised she was attracted to women when she felt a pang of jealousy at hearing Gwen had a boyfriend, and realising she was jealous of Rhys, not Gwen. In retrospect, the raging crush on her young English teacher in fifth form might have also been a givaway - as was the drunken snog with a uni classmate at the Christmas party.

5. Somewhere between the second and third bullet, Suzie realised that there had been something - she just hadn't noticed. This time, she wasn't afraid to die - she'd just, on the whole, rather live.

6. Jack spends roughly a century looking for the Doctor. He's extremely pleased that Retcon works on Time Lords - especially after that visit to UNIT in the seventies.

7. Maria has almost replaced her Mum with Sarah Jane. She still loves her Mum, of course, but Sarah Jane has become her hero, her inspiration and her world.

8. Luke feels like a blank slate. He enjoys being written on. He is starting to turn into a person. He is glad Sarah Jane is there to look after him.

9. Kelsey still has bad dreams about that weird reaction to Bubbleshock she had that one time. Sometimes, she looks at Maria at school and wonders - what if it was true?

10. One day Sarah Jane catches a glimpse of the admiration in Maria's eyes, and she realises she's turned into the Doctor. The idea makes her smile.
